Trouble had been feared ahead of the highly emotive match and supporters did clash in the Austrian city of Klagenfurt. However, UEFA have played down reports of injuries and insisted the police dealt well with the violence. A spokesman said: "Klagenfurt reported 157 arrests during the match, mainly German supporters who were arrested in the city centre but the police said the situation cleared rapidly, nobody was injured and no material damage occurred."
